Holding a BA from the University of Houston and an MBA from Texas Tech University, Rodney Goodie dedicates himself to improving living conditions for those less fortunate in his home state. In addition to founding and serving as the CEO of nonprofit healthcare organization St. Hope Foundation, Rodney Goodie has volunteered with Houston Food Bank.
A member of Feeding America, Houston Food Bank is committed to providing more than 100 million healthy meals annually by fiscal year 2018. In working to reach this goal, the nonprofit hosts 17 special events over the course of each year. These include:
Canstruction: Houston-area businesses and professionals across the architecture, engineering, and constructors sectors, as well as students pursuing studies in these fields, are invited to design unique structures with nonperishable food items. Designers of the best structures are awarded prizes, following which all food is delivered to the food bank.
Taste of the Texans: Sponsored by the Houston Texans, this culinary tasting event benefits the Houston Food Bank and two other local charities. In 2016 alone, the event brought in more than $350,000.
Gift of Produce: Over 20 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables have been donated to the Houston Food Bank by the Houston Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association in the past 30 years. The annual donation and ceremony takes place in December, with the goal of helping families in need during the holidays.
